“Girl Talk” and "Brother to Brother" Mentoring Program
Programs that were developed as a youth awareness, prevention, education program to teach and empower young girls and boys about healthy relationships, character development, building self-esteem, personal hygiene, etiquette, understanding the realities and consequences of unsafe choices. An open place for them to express their concerns and have dialogue about their day-to-day issues they are confronted with. We encourage youth to take a closer look at themselves, and motivate them to be proactive in “looking out” for their friends who may be engaging in unsafe behaviors.
Stewards of Children/Darkness to Light Seminars
Darkness to Light’s Stewards of Children is a two-hour workshop designed to educate adults on how to prevent, recognize and react responsibly to the reality of child sexual abuse. Stewards of Children emphasizes child safety as an adult’s responsibility. Trainings are open to the public and is of specific interest among parents, youth sports organizations / coaches / camp counselors, youth service organizations, teachers / school personnel and faith centers. Each participant will be inspired to take personal responsibility in preventing this epidemic. Stewards of Children facilitates discussion about the incidence and consequences of abuse, and presents information about child protection policies and reporting mandates. Continuing education hours for professionals in various fields can also be obtained.
HIV/AIDS/STD Prevention/Education/Awareness
HIV/AIDS/STD prevention education efforts are focused on educating and training teens in risky behavior. Some teens will become Peer facilitators and will serve as HIV/AIDS educators and trainers in their communities. Teens who are at increased risk for HIV infection and who are infected with HIV often need many services such as further HIV prevention counseling, evaluation of immune system function, early medical intervention for HIV infection, STD screening and treatment, substance abuse counseling and treatment, tuberculosis testing and treatment, and family planning.
Group and Individual Intensive Counseling sessions for survivors
For many survivors, a professional individual or group therapy relationship is the cornerstone of their recovery, without which other changes would be hard to come by. In a relationship with an ethical and clinically appropriate professional, the client experiences safety, respect for boundaries, sensitivity to needs and validation of both the abuse that occurred and the role of recovery in creating a happy and meaningful life.
